This detail shows a tiled shower assembly based on TCNA method B421C. It illustrates metal stud backing with cement backer board. This shower has no curb for handicapped accessibility. The receptor comprises a mortar bed with 1/4" per foot slope to drain and a topical bonded waterproof membrane which ties into a two-stage drain with weep protection. The shower walls include an optional vapor retarder membrane. The tile finish is adhered to the shower floor and walls with a bond coat of modified thinset cement mortar.

This detail shows accommodations for a top-of-wall grout pour. Grout is poured into the top course bond beam via a grout bag or funnel through 6" x 6" holes cut into the corrugated decking every 6" on center. Midway between the pour holes are 4" dia. inspection holes to verify grout placement and flow. The concrete masonry wall is secured to the suspende slab above with angles on both sides of the wall welded to a steel plate, which is anchored to the bottom of the flutes of the decking above. The angles are secured to the masonry with self tapping screws. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above.
