01.120.0201B Masonry wall intersecting concrete wall

This detail shows a grouted, reinforced, single wythe concrete masonry wall intersecting a cast in place concrete wall. Horizontal bars are hooked 90° and overlap adjacent horizontal bars a minimum of 40 bar diameters or 24 inches in the masonry, or as designed; the same hooks extend 12" into the concrete, or as designed. Open end conventional concrete masonry units and open end bond beam units are used throughout. This detail as shown is intended to illustrate a general concept or method of construction. This detail shows accommodations for a top-of-wall grout pour. Grout is poured into the top course bond beam via a grout bag or funnel through 6" x 6" holes cut into the corrugated decking every 6" on center. Midway between the pour holes are 4" dia. inspection holes to verify grout placement and flow. The concrete masonry wall is secured to the suspende slab above with angles on both sides of the wall welded to a steel plate, which is anchored to the bottom of the flutes of the decking above. The angles are secured to the masonry with self tapping screws. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above. This detail illustrates a modern rebuild strategy for replacing existing architectural terra cotta (TC) cornice, balustrade parapet, and accessory units. The existing TC is replaced with new extruded TC units, installed not filled, with weep holes at the underside of each overhanging unit; each secured with new stainless-steel anchorage. In restoring and rebuilding these types of historic wall systems, moisture mitigation is critical to their long-term preservation and performance. Moisture management measures in this detail include horizontal skyward-facing joint treatment of sealant or lead T-caps, an integrated flashing system installed in the cornice, and stainless-steel through-wall flashing under the coping.
