02.120.0210A Masonry restraint at concrete floor above

This detail shows the termination of a reinforced concrete masonry wall at the floor above. 12" long angles at 24" o.c. are welded to embedded plates in the overhead concrete, restraining lateral movement of the wall. The top of the wall is held 1 1/2 " below the bottom face of the slab. The top course or second course from the top is fully grouted to form a continuous bond beam. This detail as shown is intended to illustrate a general concept or method of construction. This detail shows accommodations for a top-of-wall grout pour. Grout is poured into the top course bond beam via a grout bag or funnel through 6" x 6" holes cut into the corrugated decking every 6" on center. Midway between the pour holes are 4" dia. inspection holes to verify grout placement and flow. The concrete masonry wall is secured to the suspende slab above with angles on both sides of the wall welded to a steel plate, which is anchored to the bottom of the flutes of the decking above. The angles are secured to the masonry with self tapping screws. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above. This detail illustrates a modern rebuild strategy for replacing existing architectural terra cotta (TC) cornice, balustrade parapet, and accessory units. The existing TC is replaced with new extruded TC units, installed not filled, with weep holes at the underside of each overhanging unit; each secured with new stainless-steel anchorage. In restoring and rebuilding these types of historic wall systems, moisture mitigation is critical to their long-term preservation and performance. Moisture management measures in this detail include horizontal skyward-facing joint treatment of sealant or lead T-caps, an integrated flashing system installed in the cornice, and stainless-steel through-wall flashing under the coping.
