02.120.0213 Top of wall bracing

This detail shows angle bracing for a concrete masonry wall, anchor the top of the wall to the structure above for instances where the masonry is terminated at or above the finish ceiling. The location of the connection plate varies depending on whether the structure is parallel or perpendicular to the wall. The masonry is grouted and reinforced vertically and horizontally at designed intervals, and the top course is a bond beam with studded plates embedded in the grout and welded to the angle braces. Angle braces have a minimum slope of 3 to 4, and a maximum slope of 2 to 1. This detail as shown is intended to illustrate a general concept or method of construction. This detail shows accommodations for a top-of-wall grout pour. Grout is poured into the top course bond beam via a grout bag or funnel through 6" x 6" holes cut into the corrugated decking every 6" on center. Midway between the pour holes are 4" dia. inspection holes to verify grout placement and flow. The concrete masonry wall is secured to the suspende slab above with angles on both sides of the wall welded to a steel plate, which is anchored to the bottom of the flutes of the decking above. The angles are secured to the masonry with self tapping screws. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above. The existing TC is replaced with new extruded TC units, installed not filled, with weep holes at the underside of each overhanging unit; each secured with new stainless-steel anchorage.
