02.120.0206 Control joint | Horizontal reinforcement options

This detail shows two options for horizontally reinforcing a control joint (CJ) in a concrete masonry wall: continuous horizontal reinforcement across the control joint, and horizontal reinforcement interrupted at the control joint. In both cases, the vertical mortar joint is raked back 1/2" at the CJ for backer rod and sealant. Horizontal and vertical grout and reinforcement are sized and spaced at intervals per structural design. This detail shall not be used for construction without the approval an signature of a licensed design professional. The person using this detail shall be responsible for its complete design and proper application.

02.120.0215 Grout pour at top of concrete masonry wall

This detail shows accommodations for a top-of-wall grout pour. Grout is poured into the top course bond beam via a grout bag or funnel through 6" x 6" holes cut into the corrugated decking every 6" on center. Midway between the pour holes are 4" dia. inspection holes to verify grout placement and flow. The concrete masonry wall is secured to the suspende slab above with angles on both sides of the wall welded to a steel plate, which is anchored to the bottom of the flutes of the decking above. The angles are secured to the masonry with self tapping screws. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above. This detail illustrates a modern rebuild strategy for replacing existing architectural terra cotta (TC) cornice, balustrade parapet, and accessory units. The existing TC is replaced with new extruded TC units, installed not filled, with weep holes at the underside of each overhanging unit; each secured with new stainless-steel anchorage. In restoring and rebuilding these types of historic wall systems, moisture mitigation is critical to their long-term preservation and performance. Moisture management measures in this detail include horizontal skyward-facing joint treatment of sealant or lead T-caps, an integrated flashing system installed in the cornice, and stainless-steel through-wall flashing under the coping.
