02.120.0228 Concrete masonry wall restraint to offset steel beam

This detail shows the top of wall restraint where an offset parallel steel beam provides restraint for the concrete masonry wall. The wall is anchored to the beam using a bent plates on both sides of the wall welded to the bottom flange of the beam. The offset beam above the wall is further braced with a diagonal angle brace connecting to adjacent framing if required. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above. This detail as shown is intended to illustrate a general concept or method of construction. This detail shows accommodations for a top-of-wall grout pour. Grout is poured into the top course bond beam via a grout bag or funnel through 6" x 6" holes cut into the corrugated decking every 6" on center. Midway between the pour holes are 4" dia. inspection holes to verify grout placement and flow. The concrete masonry wall is secured to the suspende slab above with angles on both sides of the wall welded to a steel plate, which is anchored to the bottom of the flutes of the decking above. The angles are secured to the masonry with self tapping screws. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above. This detail illustrates a modern rebuild strategy for replacing existing architectural terra cotta (TC) cornice, balustrade parapet, and accessory units. The existing TC is replaced with new extruded TC units, installed not filled, with weep holes at the underside of each overhanging unit; each secured with new stainless-steel anchorage.
