02.120.0230 Concrete masonry wall restraint | Wall under steel beam

This detail shows the top of wall restraint where a parallel structural steel beam or girder is directly above the concrete masonry wall and the decking runs parallel to the wall. Angles are welded to the lower flange of the beam on each side of the wall, and the vertical legs of the angles are anchored into the wall with self-tapping screws or screw anchors. The beam is braced with a diagonal angle brace connecting to the suspended slab above to resist lateral loads. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the horizontal legs of the angles above. This detail as shown is intended to illustrate a general concept or method of construction.
