02.120.0231 Concrete masonry wall restraint to adjacent steel beam, decking perpendicular to wall

This detail shows the top of wall restraint where a parallel structural steel beam or girder is adjacent to the concrete masonry wall and the decking runs perpendicular to the wall. The wall is anchored to the beam using a bent plate, and the beam is braced with a diagonal angle brace connecting to the suspended slab above to resist lateral loads. On the side of the wall opposite the beam, the wall is restrained by angles anchored into the suspended slab above. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above. This detail shows accommodations for a top-of-wall grout pour. Grout is poured into the top course bond beam via a grout bag or funnel through 6" x 6" holes cut into the corrugated decking every 6" on center. Midway between the pour holes are 4" dia. inspection holes to verify grout placement and flow. The concrete masonry wall is secured to the suspende slab above with angles on both sides of the wall welded to a steel plate, which is anchored to the bottom of the flutes of the decking above. The angles are secured to the masonry with self tapping screws. The top of the masonry is held back about 1 1/2" from the plate above. This detail illustrates a modern rebuild strategy for replacing existing architectural terra cotta (TC) cornice, balustrade parapet, and accessory units. The existing TC is replaced with new extruded TC units, installed not filled, with weep holes at the underside of each overhanging unit; each secured with new stainless-steel anchorage.
