04.130.0201 Stone floor | Bonded mortar bed over concrete substrate

 

This detail shows 2 cm (3/4 in.) thick dimension stone on a bonded mortar bed over a concrete substrate. The mortar setting bed is bonded to the concrete with a cementitious bond coat. The stone is typically fresh-set (i.e. the mortar bed is still workable) and adhered to the mortar with a cementitious bond coat; alternatively, the mortar bed may be allowed to cure before adhering the stone. Optional compatible waterproof membrane (not shown) may be applied over the mortar bed if it is cured. Expansion joints in the floor assembly must be provided at locations shown by the design professional. This detail is based on Natural Stone Institute's exterior stone paving detail, Mortar Bed with Bond Coat. Details that show different or modified concepts or methods can be of equal validity and should not be excluded from consideration. This detail shall not be used for construction without the approval an signature of a licensed design professional.      04.030.0202 Dimension stone wall, interior | Wire ties and molding plaster This detail shows 2 cm (3/4 in.) thick dimension stone anchored to an interior wall substrate with anchors of 8-gauge  (0.1285”) copper or stainless steel wire ties encapsulated by molding plaster at the perimeter of each stone panel. The wire is fitted into slightly oversized holes in edges of the stone panels, with wood plugs filling the space around the wire. The wire anchors are sized and spaced per empirical design and are fastened to the concrete masonry backing via holes cut into the block, also filled with plaster or rapid-curing cementitious material. Joints between the panels may be finished with compatible sealant and backer rod (not shown for clarity).
