04.040.0203 Dimension stone wall, interior | Z-strap anchors

This detail shows 3 cm (1 1/4 in.) thick dimension stone anchored to an interior wall substrate with Z-strap anchors at the top and bottom of each stone panel; an L-strap anchor (not shown) may be used at the bottom course. The anchors are sized and spaced per structural design and are fastened to the wall framing through an anchoring plate behind the wallboard. To correct for variations in the substrate, the anchors are shimmed as necessary to result in finish that is plumb. A continuous rebated kerf is cut in the stone to receive the anchors and to achieve a tight joint between the stone panels. Each panel bears on a plastic or stiff rubber bearing shim supported by the anchor, keeping the panels level. Joints between the panels may be finished with compatible sealant and backer rod (not shown for clarity). This detail shall not be used for construction without the approval of a licensed design professional. The person using this detail shall be responsible for its complete design and proper application.

     04.030.0202 Dimension stone wall, interior | Wire ties and molding plaster This detail shows 2 cm (3/4 in.) thick dimension stone anchored to an interior wall substrate with anchors of 8-gauge  (0.1285”) copper or stainless steel wire ties encapsulated by molding plaster at the perimeter of each stone panel. The wire is fitted into slightly oversized holes in edges of the stone panels, with wood plugs filling the space around the wire. The wire anchors are sized and spaced per empirical design and are fastened to the concrete masonry backing via holes cut into the block, also filled with plaster or rapid-curing cementitious material. Joints between the panels may be finished with compatible sealant and backer rod (not shown for clarity).
